At the age of 16 he became a born-again Christian. After graduating from Worcester State University, he attended Dallas Theological Seminary, where he eventually earned two degrees (ThM and PhD). While at Dallas he formed friendships with Dave Glock and Jack Fish\u2014friendships that have lasted for decades. After graduating from Dallas he spent a summer at Camp Berea in New Hampshire where he met Linda Courtney of Saratoga Springs, New York. He was \u201csmitten at first sight.\u201d They married in 1971 and now have four adult children. From 1970\u201378 David and Linda lived in Colorado where Dave taught at Western Bible University (now Colorado Christian University). During that time he was deeply involved in the work of Littleton Bible Chapel and became best friends with Alex Strauch. In those years he began a regular preaching ministry among the Brethren assemblies in Colorado. Dave joined the Emmaus faculty in 1983. His research interests include Brethren history and systematic theology\u2014especially Christology, Soteriology, and Eschatology.
